Giant

Since October 2004, I have worked for Giant as a Freelance Artist on a number of projects, invariably combining a range of artforms, such as drama, movement, performance, storytelling, writing, music, prop making and visual art.

Here is an outline of some of these projects:

Storyteller & Writer
November - December 2007
March - April 2008
:: Ages, 2 - 4

These early-years storytelling projects developed out of a pilot project that I ran during my time as Giant's Drama Officer. Between November and December 2007 I delivered afternoon storytelling sessions in Giant's Workshop Space, experimenting with different forms of storytelling, storymaking and storyreading with a small group of Early Years children, Toddlers and Parents. For the most part, these were original stories that I wrote in response to the children's interests. We explored these stories through movement, visual arts, and creative play.

In March and April 2008, I developed this further with outreach storytelling in four nurseries and community centres in Glasgow's East End, in partnership with Platform.

Training Facilitator
October - November 2007

I ran three practical Twilight Training sessions entitled Making Story-time Interactive for nursery workers, primary teachers and support workers within both mainstream and SEN education, play workers, and other professionals who use creative approaches in their work with children.

Project Leader & Lead Drama Artist
August - October 2007
:: Ages, 7 - 9

Avenue End Primary and Croftcroighn School for children with Complex Needs, moved to a combined Campus in April 2007. The Giant Jungle aimed to integrate the two schools through a joint project.

Over the course of seven weeks the Creative Team worked with a mixture of Primary 3/Middle Years pupils from both schools using movement, music, drama, storytelling, and visual arts to explore the theme of the Jungle.

The project culminated with a Sharing before the October Break, where the three groups were able to share their work with each other and a small audience of children from the Nursery. We celebrated the end of our Sharing with some Jungle-themed nibbles and juices.
