As one of Scotland's leading producers of work for children and young people, Catherine Wheels Theatre Company is committed to creating work in a range of contexts, from the big theatres, to forest clearings, to the school classroom.

A Town Called Elsewhere is a fantastic example of the success of their work in schools, with a programme that includes a pre-show workshop for pupils, a live performance in the school hall, and a Continuing Professional Development session for teachers. Exploring the idea of citizenship, belonging and culture, A Town Called Elsewhere follows a boy called Joe as he goes on an adventure to a new town, where everything is not quite as he expects.

The programme originally toured in February/March 2007, and following great success was awarded generous support from the Wood Family Trust to tour to a further eleven areas in Autumn 2008.

As an Education Facilitator for Catherine Wheels, I lead pre-show workshops with Primary 1-3 pupils and also deliver CPD training for teachers.

Here is a slideshow of images from a workshop I led in Dumfries & Galloway as part of the original tour. Throughout the session, we explored music, movement and storytelling, going on many an imaginary journey to places far and wide:
